What is Lipedema?
About lipedema and its degrees and stagesLipedema is a disease that is still poorly diagnosed and understood. The main issue is the chronic inflammation of the fatty tissue present mostly in legs and sometimes in the arms.
In approximately 30% of patients, it also occurs in their upper extremities.
There is usually a familiar association; although, the genetic pathway is yet to be determined.
Usually it presents as a columnar increase of the volume of the legs with no feet compromise. This hypertrophy of the legs usually responds poorly to specific diets and exercise.
The disease may initiate in the puberty and it may get worse with some hormonal changes, such as during pregnancy and / or menopause.
Some other diseases may aggravate this condition; such as: obesity, vein insufficiency, lymphatic diseases and poor exercise.
